66th WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY 20-28 May 2013



GENEVA ¦ 16 May 2013 –The World Health Assembly (WHA) is the annual meeting of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) 194 Member States and is its highest decision-making body. It sets out the Organization’s policy and approves its budget. Nearly 3000 delegates are expected at this year’s session. This year marks the 66th World Health Assembly,  is being held from 20 to 28th May 2013 at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland.

Agenda issues for this year’s WHA include :

  • WHO reform
  • Draft comprehensive global monitoring framework and targets for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases
  • Monitoring of the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals
  • Health in the post-2015 development agenda
  • Poliomyelitis: intensification of the global eradication initiative
  • Pandemic influenza preparedness; sharing of influenza viruses and access to vaccines, and the draft global vaccine plan
  • Neglected Tropical Diseases
  • Universal Health Coverage
  • The report of the Consultative Expert Working Group on Research and Development : Financing and Coordination
