LANSA - LEVERAGING AGRICULTURE FOR NUTRITION IN SOUTH ASIA

IMPROVING NUTRITION THROUGH AGRICULTURE

REPORT BY SPL. CORRESPONDEDENT PIONEER 

NEW DELHI, INDIA- A New research program seeking soloutions to malnutrition in South Asia
We are finfing out how agriculture and agri-food systems, policies and strategies can be better designed to reduce malnutrition . We want to find soloutions that improve nutrition outcomes for young women and children in South Asia. 

South Asia has experienced extraordinary economic growth yet it has the highest  rate of cgild malnutrition in the world. 
Agriculture is the main liveihood for the majority of rural famies in South Asia, but its potenial to reduce undernutrition is not being realised . 

LANSA AIMS TO GERNATE EVIDENCE THAT, WITH PRACTICAL APPLICATION CAN IMPROVE NUTRITION OUTCOMES FOR THOSE MOST VALNERABLE TO UNDERNUTRITION.

THREE RESEARCH THEMES: 

1. ENABLING ENVIRNMENTS FOR NUTRITION 

    HOW CAN AGRICUTURE AMND FOOD SYSTEMS BE BETTER LINKED TO OTHER DRIVERS OF NUTRITION.

2. Agri-food value chains

How can nutritional impacts be improved in agricuture atratigies and food value chains? 

3. Nutrition sensitive agricuture
How can agricuture intervention s be desgined to improve nutrional status?

Three cross-cutting themes:

1. Gender and nutrition 
    women's empowerment and nutrition are closely linked, So gender frames our research.
2.  Innovation systems 
     Viral for lasting soultions are the innovation systems used to embed new ideas in agricuture.
3. Fragility 
    We take into account the fragile contexts (political and envirnmental) that many of the regional food systems are located.
We don't just do research

To make sure the evidence we produce is relevant to decision makers and other stake holders , we place special empasis on research communications and strenthening capacity. We also facilitate knowledge sharing and learning between partners.
