16 February 2013, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi – The 2ndIISWM during IETF 2013, a Round table: Stakeholder Meet on Policy Recommendations for Sustainable Municipal Solid Waste Management, was hosted by CII in association with Andhra Pradesh Technology Development and Promotion Centre (APTDC) on 16th February 2013 from 1130 hrs till 1300 hrs.
Mr. Amit Gossain, Chairman of CII National Task Force on Municipal Solid Waste Management and Vice President (Marketing& Business Development), JCB India Limited, chaired the roundtable. Representatives from Industry,Consultants, NGOs and Academia from India and overseas participated in the round table.
Mr.Gossain said,”that the Task Force, which was formed in 2008, has been working for the benefit of thestake holders of Municipal Solid Waste Management Sector and the Society & Environment at large”.
Realizing the need for investment friendly policy measures to foster sustainable municipal solid waste management projects in India, CII brought together various stakeholders of this sector on various occasions, held series of meetings to discuss and compile the policy recommendationsthat would be submitted to the government soon.
The task force identified the12 most important policy recommendations that would help in promoting sustainable solid waste management projects across the country. In the roundtable today, the recommendations were reviewed and finalized. The recommendations touched upon all the factors influencing the sector, ranging from selection of technology, economic viability, accountability &responsibility and effective implementation to terms & conditions of contracts, Tax matters, etc.
A team comprising of members of various stakeholders of the sector lead by Mr.Gossain will submit the final recommendations to the government for consideration soon.
