Chennai, India, 24 April, 2015 - Tamil Nadu has bagged the
e-Panchayat Puraskar award for 2014 for developing a set of applications for
better administration of panchayati raj institutions.
The State has won the award,
which carries a cash prize of Rs. 20 lakh, for developing applications like
PRIASoft, Local Government Directory, National Panchayat Portal, National Asset
Directory and Plan Plus.
It had spent about Rs. 80 crore
on hardware at panchayats towards implementation of the applications as well.
Rural Development and Panchayat
Raj secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi received the award from Prime Minister
Narendra Modi at a function in New Delhi on Friday.
K. Rajeswari Devadoss,
president, Berahatty village of Coonoor block in The Nilgiris district,
received the Rashtriya Gaurav Grama Sabha award and Rs. 10 lakh cash prize for
outstanding performance through effective gram sabha.
The Centre has also selected
best six village panchayats (Mudikandam in Tiruchi, Kosavalampalayam in
Tirupur, Kurudampalayam in Coimbatore, Burilar in Nilgris, Melapudukudi in
Tuticorin and Athipatti in Virudhunagar districts) , two panchayat unions
(Kadavur in Karur and Thondamuthur in Coimbatore), and a district panchayat
(Tirunelveli) for awards under Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar for 2014-15.
While the district union was
awarded Rs. 30 lakh in cash prize, the panchayat unions received Rs. 20 lakh
each and village panchayats Rs. 8 lakh each, an official release said.- The
