Environmental Resource Conservation Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR)

Accumulating Solid Waste at the Garbage In Hyderabad, India
22nd Decemeber, 2012, Hyderabad, India – The growth in the manufacturing sector is enabled and facilitated by an ever-increasing rate of resources consumptions and generation of different kind of wastes. Higher consumption and usage of natural resources leading to ecological environment through air emissions, effluent run off and improper disposal of solid wastes.

Why Recycling?

Sustainable development of a country requires conservation of raw materials by using efficient processes as well as using raw-materials with maximum recycles content. Globally, approx. 1.6 million people are active in recycling industry, handling more than 600 million tons of recyclables every year.

Annual turnover of more than $200 billion, similar to the GDP of countries such as Portugal, Colombia and Malaysia. The opportunity and market potential for waste management & recycling in India is very high.  There is a need to showcase the potential business opportunities in the cycling market.
Benefits of Recycling:
·        The recycling industry will create huge Job market and in term would lead to economic prosperity. According to the Bureau of International Recycling, Recycled materials can provide more than 40% of global need for virgin raw-material.

·                  Emphasis the need for strengthening the companies of local bodies for segregation, recycling and reduce of industrial and municipal waste.

·     Encourage Public Private Partnership (PPP) in establishing facilities for reuse, recycling and reprocessing of waste from various sectors.

·             R& D plays an important role in waste management to identify recycling opportunities and scientific method of waste management.

Andhra Pradesh the first state in India to commence Treatment Storage Disposal Facility (TDSF) at Dundigal, A.P. Inventorisation of 1739 units covered under Hazardous waste management Rule ,2003 has been carried out. The Treatment Storage Disposal Facility (TSDF) at Dindigal, Ragareddy district is effectively managing industrial hazardous waste in the State. The Second Hazardous waste landfill facility as part of Pharma city, Parawada, Visakhapatnam District was started in Nov. 2006.  This TSDF has also commenced common hazardous waste incinerator for disposal of incinerable waste generated from the industries located in North Coastal Districts of A.P.

A.P. is the first State in India to have common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment facilities operating in the State for safe disposal of 13 tons of Bio-Medical Waste generated per day.

The APIIC has already prepared environmental Status report of IDA, Mallapur through EPTRI on eco industrial estate concept. Three Track Forces have been established to enquire into public complaints. Inspecting problematic industries Solid waste processing plants are operating for processing Municipal Solid Waste. Usage of recycled plastic carry bags and containers for food stuffs as well as plastic carry bags of less than 20 micronsthickness is already banned in Andhra Pradesh. Visakhapatnam is only City in India fastest growing economy in the Asia and also there first waste generation Plant in India.

According to Mr. Arun Kumar, Chief Environmental Engineer, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board said “ 3500 MT/month energy generating in every month in A.P. In 2010-11 alone 19,577 tons of organic waste has been used for the purpose Cement of co-processing’s Cement Kilns”

According to Central Pollution Control Act, Cut-off quantity 10,000 liters for cooling purpose. The A.P. Pollution Control Board has initiated several measures for effective control of Environmental pollution in the State. First Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) of India was started in A.P. at Jeedimetla (Hyderabad) in 1989 to cater to the needs of the small- Scale industries. Japanese technology are followed in Municipal waste generation system are already promoted in Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad alone generates over 4000 tons of waste a day.

According to Mr. D. Sudhakar, Executive Engineer, (GHMC), Hyderabad said “ Waste management and environment protection needs to be apriority and all the policy makers must see and think while making the policies in angle of “Waste is a valuable resource and not a problem”
