Russian Helicopters to hold negotiations on the MRO of helicopters in India at DefExpo 2018

Moscow / Russia 10 April 2018 - Russian Helicopters Holding Company will hold negotiations related to the after-sales support of Russian helicopters operated in India within the framework of international military and technical exhibition, DefExpo 2018.
Currently, medium utility helicopters of Mi-8/17 type, as well as heavy Mi-26, attack Mi-25, as well as ship-based Ka-25, Ka-28 and Ka-31 are operated in India.
The total fleet of Russian-made helicopters in India constitutes about 400 units and the models of light utility Ka-226T helicopter which are going to be produced at the Russian and Indian joint venture as well as an advanced Mi-171A2 helicopter in offshore configuration will be presented at the exposition of the Holding Company at DefExpo 2018.
In November 2017, Russian Helicopters concluded a contract with Vectra Group for the supply of Mi-171A2 utility helicopter in 2018. And the agreement envisages an option for the purchase of another helicopter of this type.
During the negotiations we are planning to pay special attention to the issues of after-sales support, repair and modernization of earlier supplied helicopters in India, we are planning to sign several documents related to this topic.
Moreover, an implementation of a joint project - a Russian and Indian Joint Venture for the assembly of Ka-226T registered in May 2017 - will be discussed.
A ship-based Ka-226T helicopter, which, as we believe may also be assembled at the facilities of the JV will be presented for our partners. Light utility Ka-226T helicopter, featuring a coaxial main rotor system with the maximum take-off weight of 3.6 tons is capable of transporting up to 1 ton of payload. Ka-226T may be equipped with a transport cabin which allows transporting up to 6 people, or modules fitted with special equipment.
Improved performance of Ka-226T helicopter, environmental friendliness, cost effectiveness, state-of-the-art avionics suite and additional flight safety solutions make this helicopter one of the best in its class.
More than 80 modifications have been introduced in the design of Mi-171A2 helicopter as compared to the baseline model. The helicopter is powered by VK-2500PS-03 engines (civil version of the engines installed on Mi-28 combat helicopters) with FADEC system. A new rotor system is one of the most important distinctive features of the Mi-171A2 as compared to Mi-8/Mi-17 helicopters.
The helicopter is equipped with more efficient X-shape tail rotor and a new main rotor with all-composite blades of improved aerodynamic design. Therefore, the aerodynamics facilitated the increase of the thrust of the main rotor of Mi-171A2 more than by 700 kg, which had a positive impact on the whole range of flight performance.

Airbus launches photonics payload technology project “OPTIMA”

Hyderabad, India- Airbus has launched the OPTIMA project, which will deliver a proof of concept demonstrator for the use of photonic payloads in telecommunications satellites.
The OPTIMA project which is led by Airbus Defense and Space in Steven age and part of Horizon 2020 funded by the European Commission, comprises specialist partners from across Europe, including DAS Photonics, CORDON Electronics, SODERN, IMEC and Polaris. Airbus Defense and Space will define, assemble and test a photonic payload demonstrator based on the components and equipment developed by the other members of the consortium.
Photonic payloads have the potential to revolutionize the design, capacity and capability of future generations of telecommunications satellites.  The photonic payloads will use light to transfer the signals throughout the spacecraft, replacing current RF technologies, allowing for the development of more efficient and powerful satellites which are able to meet the increasing complexity and sophistication required by customers.
The use of optical fiber based equipment has already transformed Information Technology for ground applications, and its compact, lightweight and low power nature should enable reductions in mass on telecommunication satellites as they replace currently used technology.
Speaking on the occasion MR. Javad Anzalchi, Airbus project manager said,  “By bringing together our industry partners who have complementary skills and expertise, we will develop OPTIMA to provide a roadmap for photonics technology available for telecommunications satellites - and we are targeting an in orbit demonstration as early as 2020.
Full development of this technology should not only allow the European space industry to address the challenges of the EU’s Digital Agenda for Europe 2020, but also strengthen its position in a very competitive, global marketplace.” He added

IAI FOCUSES EFFORTS ON GREEN ENERGY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ELECTRICALLY-POWERED AIRCRAFT

Hyderabad, India - Israel Aerospace Industry (IAI) has begun working on the development of green energy solutions for the future development of electrically powered aircraft, combining environmental benefits together with longer ranges and endurance and with significant fuel cost savings.

The demand for electrically powered aircraft is projected to reach hundreds of aircrafts per year within the next decade, covering a range of sizes and mission profiles. The growing use of electric propulsion is expected to save hundreds of millions of dollars in fuel and maintenance costs. Environmental benefits include significant reduction of air pollution and noise levels. While today's electrical power is mainly limited to very light aircraft, IAI estimates that as the technology continues to mature, the market will diversify also to short-range passenger airplanes and other configurations.

IAI's experience in electric power systems for unmanned aerial vehicles spans many years. Some of the products developed by IAI include the Panther and Mini Panther UAVs, vertical takeoff and landing Unmanned Airborne Vehicles as well as the Bird Eye 650 reconnaissance vehicle.

In recent years, IAI has been investing heavily in R&D of electric power systems, including engines, batteries and energy sources. It also monitors closely the developments, integration and demonstration of advanced technologies in this arena. Together with IAI's in-house developments, it is also considering potential collaborations with a startup company in his most upcoming and challenging field of electrically powered aircraft.

Speaking on the occasion, MR. Moshe Medina, Vice President of IAI Engineering and Development Group, said, "The aviation world is about to enter a new era of electric propulsion. The significant improvement of electrical power sources for the cellular communication and electric cars may prove to have a positive effect on the reliability and efficiency of the electrical power system. These, in turn, can make the electric aircraft ‘the next big trend' in the world of aviation. Electric airplanes are greener, quieter, reliable and more economical. While many technological challenges need to be addressed as part of the development and certification, IAI's extensive experience allows us to develop a solution kit for building the world's most efficient electrical aircraft. We are nearing the completion of the characterization and conceptual design phase and will focus on the areas in which we see the strongest business potential."
