MCCI organized an Awareness Programme on “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013” today at the Chamber premises. The programme was addressed by Smt. Sunanda Mukherjee, Hon’ble Chairperson, West Bengal Commission for Women, Shri M.S. Dwivedy, Hon’ble Member (Judicial), West Bengal Human Rights Commission and Shri Vishal Kedia, Consultant & Eminent Speaker. Addressing the members, Smt. Sunanda Mukherjee said that “the Human Rights Commissions and the Commissions for Women are quasi–judicial bodies with recommendatory powers and monitoring authorities, they are not sufficiently empowered to ensure justice for the wronged women”. Smt. Mukherjee was of the opinion that this Law had been a great leap forward where the employer had been given full responsibility to handle the cases, which actually a HR issue. However, there had been widespread implementation lapses. Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) had not been constituted in most of the companies and the women victims had to face so much agony, as also fear of job loss. The women used to get trapped in various ways in the workplace. She felt that things had taken a positive turn in the last 6–7 months, with colleagues and friends, both men & women, coming forward to help the concerned women. It was the duty of the employer to create a discrimination–free environment at the workplace, she added. Shri M S Dwivedy highlighted on sensitization of the personnel at the workplace, in addition to awareness programmes. Shri Vishal Kedia mentioned that the Law was more preventive than curative and it entailed only punishment in terms of fine and no imprisonment. He spoke on the positive points of the Law like confidentiality, time bound redressal within 90 days, punishment for false & malicious complaint and others. He also referred to a recent UGC notification of gender neutrality in higher education empowering women and students of any gender to make a complaint of sexual harassment.

SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY TO CONVERT CONVENTIONAL RAKES OF FOUR LONG DISTANCE EXPRESS TRAINS INTO LHB RAKES

Kolkata, 24th February, 2017-    With a view to ensure safe and comfortable journey of railway passengers, South Eastern Railway has decided to convert the Conventional Rake of four express trains into LHB Rakes. The following trains will run with LHB coaches from the date mentioned against each:-

·        22853/22854 Shalimar-Visakhapatnam Express w.e.f. 28.02.2017

·        22894/22893 Howrah-Sai Nagar Shirdi Express w.e.f. 02.03.2017

·        12870/12869 Howrah-Mumbai(CSTM) Express w.e.f. 03.03.2017

·        22857/22858  Santragachi-Anand Vihar Express w.e.f. 06.03.2017

With the conversion of the above trains into full LHB rakes, the accommodation of the trains will also be enhanced.

22853/22854 Shalimar-Visakhapatnam Express and 12870/12869 Howrah-Mumbai (CSTM) Express will have additional capacity of total 116 berths.  There will be additional 88 berths in Sleeper Class, 12 berths in AC-2 Tier and 16 berths in AC-3 tier.

            22894/22893 Howrah-Sai Nagar Shirdi Express and 22857/22858 Santagachi-Anand Vihar Express will have additional capacity of total 86 berths.  There will be additional 64 berths in Sleeper Class, 6 berths in AC-2 Tier and 16 berths in AC-3 tier.

RAILWAY MINISTER LAUNCHES STATION REDEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Kolkata, 8th February, 2017 - Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minsiter for Railways launched Station Redevelopment Programme through video conferencing from Rail Bhawan, New Delhi today (08/02/2017). As many as 23 stations would be developed in first phase by zonal railways to world class standards. Ranchi station of South Eastern Railway has been taken up as a part of Station Redevelopment Programme. This innovative programme involves upgrading stations by developing passenger amenity works through PPP model without straining railway’s finances.

     The main objective is to develop the railway stations across Indian Railways by augmenting and improving passenger related amenities at stations in a holistic manner. The redeveloped stations will improve passenger experience by providing amenities like digital signage, escalators/elevators, self ticketing counters, executive lounges, luggage screening machines, walk ways etc.

    There are presently more than 8,000 stations in Indian Railways, out of which 400 stations are selected for Station Redevelopment Programme based on station revenue and this kind of development will touch 16 million passengers footfalls per day i.e. 70% of total daily footfall.

This bold step will bring turnaround of Indian Railways in coming days.

IAL Group to incorporate a JV in India to Manufacture Specific Air Defense Systems

Bengaluru, India, February 15, 2017- Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. and Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd. (KSSL) the defense arm of Kalyani Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to incorporate a Joint Venture Company (JVC) in India.

As part of the MOU, IAI and KSSL are aiming to expand their presence in the Indian defense market and to build, market and manufacture specific Air Defense Systems and Ground to Ground & Ground to Sea Munitions.  

The MOU was signed in Bangalore, India, at the Aero-India exhibition, by Joseph Weiss, IAI's President and CEO and Baba Kalyani, Chairman Kalyani Group. The MOU is the first step of a process to establish a JVC between the two companies. Rafale To Display Solo Flights At Aero India

Bengaluru, 10 February 2017 – The Dassault Aviation, France to present its dual military and civil know-how at the 2017 Aero India wiil be held in Bangalore,India from 14^th to 18^th February, 2017

Three Rafale fighter aircraft will be on display one single-seat Rafale C and two 2-seat Rafale B, and a daily flight “solo” display will be performed.

The Indian Air Force has been flying Dassault aircraft since 1953 and the contract to acquire 36 Rafale signed by September, 2016 is a continuation of this strategic, technological and industrial success story.

IAI reveals HERON TP-XP UAV at Aero India 2017

February 9, 2017, Bangalore, India - IAI will introduce an export-specific version of its Heron TP medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned air vehicle, which will be displayed for the first time at Aero India show in Bangalore. India, February 14-18, 2017. The Heron TP-XP constitutes a multi-mission, multi-payload strategic aircraft, integrating the most advanced technologies of IAI.

The Heron TP-XP is the latest member of the Heron family, a significant advantage to many Heron customers worldwide, based on the same operational concepts. These operational concepts are based on over 40 years of IAI accumulated knowledge and experience in UAV systems, with 1,500,000 cumulative UAV flight hours and more than 50 operational clients.

The Heron TP-XP is characterized by safety and reliability standards which are among the highest in the world, and is capable of operating in extreme weather conditions. This UAV also meets accepted world standards and complies with STANAG 4671.

IAI says the new Heron TP-XP "constitutes a multi-mission, multi-payload strategic aircraft" capable of operating in extreme weather conditions. IAI has previously supplied the Indian armed forces with its earlier, smaller Heron 1 UAV, and New Delhi had shown interest in also obtaining the TP model.
